Housing Issues On The Gulf Coast

There is a critical need for rental housing all over the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. Here in Hancock County the rent has doubled making what little rental accommodation that is available totally out of reach of the minimum wage worker. Two to three bedroom apartments are renting from $900 per month to $1,500 spiraling upwards as the local inhabitants compete with contractors and their employees for housing. The labor shortage is directly equitable to the housing shortage - a Catch22 all around.
