Volunteers have interesting visit to New Orleans Wednesday night
Kathleen Johnson 8/3/06
One of my visiting volunteer teams, here in Waveland, opted to go to New Orleans last night to see how the disaster recovery was going in Louisiana. On the way down, at the Michoud Boulevard exit off I-10 west, on the lake side of the highway,, they pulled off the interstate for the rest break . Not being able to find an open bathroom, and in desperation, the team leader wandered over to a grove of trees.
What he found was a very foul odor which lead him to an advanced decomposing body. The local police were called and advised the team that the area has been the site for the dumping of several bodies over the years. This was not a victim of the storm but foul play.
The story was reported in the Times Picayune today. Click Here for more on this story
As for the team - well they were hard at work back here in Waveland today volunteering on the re-construction, gutting out homes, moving debris, and quite impressed with the progress we have made here in Hancock County compared to New Orleans.
